Holyland Boarding School is a non-profit, non-denominational primary school run by the community in the western plains of Nepal.
The school prides itself on its social justice ethos, with a quarter of the students too poor to afford school fees so their education is free.
The students learn in English, greatly improving their employment chances later in life. Their subjects include maths, English, Nepaali, science, general knowledge, art, music and physical education.
The school day lasts from 10 - 4pm in winter and in summer moves to 7 - 12pm to escape the afternoon heat. Holyland has classes from Kindergarten to Class 7 (lower secondary).
Holyland tries to create a holistic environment for the children where they are nurtured and encouraged to try new things. The school has a family atmosphere and the students are eager to learn and do well in their education.
The school's grounds are humble with small classrooms made from brick to keep the students cool in the hot season. There is plenty of grass and space for the students to play during break times.
