Holyland Boarding School
Basantpur,
Attariya
Kailali

Nepal

The area - the place, the country, the continent

The school is located in the small town of Attariya (20,000), about 15 kilometres from a large city called Dhangadhi which is on the India - Nepal border. Attariya is in a very poor but beautiful part of Nepal in the far western corner of the Terai (the flatlands). It is overnight on the bus from both Kathmandu and Delhi. Volunteers are picked up by school staff in Kathmandu or can travel from Delhi by train and bus.

Dhangadi is on the border with India and thus provides a perfect jumping off point to travel in either direction, or both! Attariya is overlooked by the foothills of the Himalaya, close to the mighty Karnali river and is inbetween two beautiful national parks. It is also a gateway to explore the incredible country that is India, being close to Delhi, Rajasthan and Dharamsala.

Near the town is the Royal Bardia National Park which has rhinocerous, tigers, elephants, deers, blackbucks, crocodiles and dolphins.

There are many opportunities for volunteers to travel throughout Nepal during their time at Holyland.  You are not required to stay for any period of time and you can always come back after some traveling, using Dhangadhi as your base.

The beautiful town of Pokhara is nearby, the Himalayas aren’t far away, Tibet lies over the mountains and India beckons across the plains – you are in one of the most beautiful and amazing places on earth, enjoy it while you’re there!
